Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how PDF Studio ("App," "we," "our") handles information when you use our application. We are committed to being transparent about how the App actually works, including exactly where your data goes.

  1. Information We Collect

We do not create user accounts and do not collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or contacts list. The App has no login, no user profile, and no server-side database of any kind operated by us.

  1. How the App Works

PDF Studio includes 28 tools for working with PDFs — merging, splitting, compressing, rotating, cropping, watermarking, adding page numbers, adding signatures, protecting/unlocking, comparing, converting to and from images, and converting to and from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plain text, RTF, HTML, and SVG.

Most of these tools process your files entirely on your Mac, using Apple's own PDFKit, Core Graphics, and Vision frameworks. For these tools, your files are never uploaded anywhere: the App reads the file(s) you select, processes them locally, and writes the result straight to the export folder you choose.

A smaller set of tools — converting PDF to Word, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF to Excel, Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, and PDF to PDF/A — use CloudConvert, a third-party file-conversion service, because these conversions require a conversion engine Apple's on-device frameworks don't provide. When you use one of these specific tools, the file you select is uploaded to CloudConvert's servers, converted, and the result is downloaded back to your Mac. See Section 6 for exactly what that involves.

Every tool in the App tells you what it's doing — none of this happens silently or in a way that differs from what the tool itself describes.

  1. Local Storage

The App stores a small amount of data locally on your Mac, inside its own sandboxed storage:

Your appearance preference (Light, Dark, or System)

Your remaining free-use count per tool, used to enforce the free-tier limits described in the App

A rolling history of past exports — for each one, the date, how many files succeeded or failed, which tool was used, and the destination folder's name and path (not the files themselves)

A reference to your chosen default export folder, so the App can remember it between launches

This data is not synced to any server we control and stays on your Mac unless you delete it yourself. You can clear your export history from the History tab, or remove all of it by deleting the App.

  1. Device Permissions

PDF Studio does not request access to your microphone, camera, contacts, or location.

When you choose files to process, or a folder to export to, the App uses macOS's standard file picker or drag-and-drop. This grants the App access only to the specific files or folder you select — it is not a standing "Files" permission, and nothing else on your Mac becomes visible to the App as a result.

  1. Subscriptions & Payments

If you choose to subscribe to Pro (unlocking unlimited use of every tool):

All payments are processed entirely through the Apple App Store, using Apple's StoreKit framework

We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information ourselves

We do not run any server-side receipt validation — subscription status is verified directly against Apple's records on your device

Apple manages all transaction data under its own Privacy Policy

  1. Third-Party Services

PDF Studio uses two third parties, for different, limited purposes:

ServicePurposeWhat's sentPrivacy Policy
Apple App Store / StoreKitPayments, subscriptions, and purchase validationPurchase/transaction data (handled entirely by Apple)apple.com/legal/privacy
CloudConvert (operated by Lunaweb GmbH, Germany)File conversion for 7 specific tools: PDF to Word, PDF to PowerPoint, PDF to Excel, Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, and PDF to PDF/AThe file you selected for one of these conversions, plus your device's IP address as part of the network requestcloudconvert.com/privacy

What happens to a file sent to CloudConvert: it is uploaded solely to perform the conversion you requested, is not read, inspected, or mined for any other purpose, and is automatically deleted from CloudConvert's servers within 24 hours (CloudConvert's own stated retention limit as of this writing). All processing is automated; CloudConvert states there is no human review of file content. PDF Studio does not create a CloudConvert account on your behalf — the App authenticates using its own developer credential, not an account tied to you — so no name, email, or similar personal identifier of yours is sent to CloudConvert through this integration. Your device's IP address is visible to CloudConvert as part of any network request, consistent with how any API traffic works, and is retained under CloudConvert's own logging policy (up to 180 days per their current privacy policy).

None of the App's other 21 tools send any file, or any information about it, anywhere. We do not integrate any advertising network, and we do not use Firebase, Google Analytics, or any other analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting SDK.

  1. Analytics & Tracking

We do not use behavioral analytics tools that build a profile of individual users.

We do not track you across other apps or websites.

We do not serve ads of any kind.

We do not use cookies, device fingerprinting, or the Apple IDFA.

We do not currently collect crash or diagnostic data of any kind. If a future version adds crash reporting to help us fix bugs, we will update this policy before that change ships.

  1. Data Storage & Security

Data stored locally (export history, tool preferences, appearance setting, and your default export folder reference) lives in the App's private sandboxed storage on your Mac, protected by macOS's built-in security features (Touch ID, password/passcode, FileVault where enabled).

For the 21 on-device tools, your files are never transmitted anywhere — processing happens entirely on your Mac, and the result is written only to the folder you chose. For the 7 CloudConvert-based tools, your file is transmitted only for the duration of that specific conversion, over an encrypted (TLS) connection, and is not retained by us — CloudConvert's own retention and deletion practices are described in Section 6. We do not maintain any database of your files or exports on servers we operate, because we don't operate any.

  1. Children's Privacy

PDF Studio is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Parents and guardians should supervise use of the App by children and teenagers, particularly regarding any in-app purchases.

  1. Your Rights

Because we do not maintain user accounts or any server-side database of our own, there is no persistent profile tied to you that we can access, export, or delete on our end — there simply isn't one. All locally stored App data (export history, preferences, folder reference) can be deleted at any time from the History tab's clear option, or by deleting the App entirely.

For data processed by Apple as part of a purchase (Section 5), please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for how to exercise any rights you may have with them directly.

For a file transmitted to CloudConvert as part of one of the 7 conversions described in Section 6, it is deleted from their servers automatically within 24 hours; you may also refer to CloudConvert's privacy policy for how to exercise any rights you may have with them directly.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do:

The "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised.

Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.

Your continued use of the App after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

  1. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. (Note: confirm this with a lawyer familiar with your actual jurisdiction — this clause should name the developer's home jurisdiction, not the user's, and needs review before publishing.)

  1. Contact Us

If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please contact us:

We aim to respond within 5 business days.
