Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Wick AI ("App," "we," "our") handles information when you use our application. We are committed to being transparent about how the App actually works, including where your data goes.
1. Information We Collect
We do not create user accounts and do not collect personal identifiers such as your name, home address, or contacts list.
However, unlike a fully offline app, Wick AI's core features work by sending the content you type or attach — chat messages, medical questions, study material, email drafts, and diet/nutrition queries — to our backend so an AI model can generate a response. If you choose not to type sensitive information into the App, it is never collected in the first place; but anything you do type or attach as part of a conversation is transmitted off your device to generate that conversation's response. See Section 2 for exactly how this works.
2. How the App Works
AI-Generated Responses. When you send a message in any mode (Chat, Medical Assistant, Study Buddy, Email Composer, or Diet Planner), the text of your message is sent securely to our backend (Firebase Cloud Functions), which forwards it to OpenAI's API to generate a reply. The reply is sent back to the App and displayed to you. We do not operate our own AI models — OpenAI processes the request and its own data-handling practices apply to that processing, governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
File & Image Attachments. You can attach images, PDFs, and Word documents from your Mac. Text extraction from these files happens on-device first — using Apple's Vision framework (image OCR) and PDFKit (PDF text) — but the extracted text (or, for images with no readable text, the image itself) is then included in your message and sent to our backend as described above, so the AI can use it to generate a response.
Local Storage. Your conversation history, meal plans, saved recipes, food logs, study decks and quiz results, and email drafts are stored locally in the App's private sandbox on your Mac using Core Data. This data is not synced to any server we control and stays on your device unless you choose to export or share it yourself.
Voice Input & Output. If you use voice dictation, the App uses Apple's Speech framework and your device's microphone to convert speech to text; depending on your device and language settings, this processing may occur on-device or on Apple's own servers, governed by Apple's privacy practices. Text-to-speech playback is generated entirely on-device using macOS's built-in speech synthesizer and never leaves your Mac.
3. Device Permissions
The App requests the following permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Recording your voice for voice-to-text dictation |
| Speech Recognition | Converting your recorded voice into text |
You can manage these permissions anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Denying a permission disables only voice dictation; every other feature of the App continues to work normally.
4. Subscriptions & Payments
If you choose to subscribe to Wick AI Pro:
- All payments are processed entirely through the Apple App Store.
- We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information ourselves.
- Apple manages all transaction data under its own Privacy Policy.
5. Third-Party Services
Wick AI relies on the following third-party services to function:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI API | Generates AI responses to your messages | openai.com/policies/privacy-policy |
| Firebase Cloud Functions (Google) | Securely relays your requests to the OpenAI API | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Firebase Crashlytics (Google) | Collects anonymous crash and diagnostic data to help us fix bugs | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Apple App Store / StoreKit | Payments, subscriptions, and purchase validation | apple.com/legal/privacy |
We do not integrate any advertising networks, and we do not use Firebase Analytics or any other behavioral-tracking or ad SDK.
6. Crash & Diagnostic Data
Wick AI uses Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect anonymous diagnostic data if the App crashes or encounters an error — such as device model, operating system version, app version, and a technical crash log. This helps us identify and fix bugs. This diagnostic data is separate from your conversation content and is not linked to your identity.
7. Analytics & Tracking
- We do not use behavioral analytics tools that build a profile of individual users.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not serve ads of any kind.
- We do not use cookies, device fingerprinting, or the Apple IDFA.
8. Data Storage & Security
Data stored locally (history, meal plans, study decks, drafts) lives in your device's private app sandbox, protected by macOS's built-in encryption and your device's security features (Touch ID, password/passcode). Data transmitted to generate an AI response is sent over an encrypted connection and is subject to the retention practices described in OpenAI's and Firebase's own privacy policies, linked above. We do not maintain a separate database of your conversations on our own servers.
9. Children's Privacy
Wick AI is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Because some App features transmit user-entered content to generate AI responses, we ask that users under 13 do not use the App, and parents/guardians should supervise use by teenagers.
10. Your Rights
Because we do not maintain user accounts or a server-side database of your conversations, there is no persistent profile tied to you that we can access, export, or delete on our end beyond what's described above. All locally stored App data (history, drafts, meal plans, decks) can be deleted at any time by deleting the App or by using the in-app "Clear" options available in each feature. For data processed by OpenAI or Firebase as part of generating a response, please refer to their respective privacy policies for how to exercise any rights you may have with them directly.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do:
- The "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised.
- Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.
- Your continued use of the App after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. (Note: confirm this with a lawyer familiar with your actual jurisdiction — this clause should generally name the developer's home jurisdiction, not the user's, and needs review before publishing.)
