Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Classyfi ("App," "we," "our") handles information when you use our application. We are committed to being transparent about how the App actually works, including exactly where your data goes.

Information We Collect

We do not create user accounts and do not collect personal identifiers such as your name or contacts list. The App has no login of its own, no user profile, and no server-side database of any kind operated by us.

If you choose to connect Google Classroom (entirely optional — see below), Google shares your account email with the App so Settings can show which account is connected. This is the only personal identifier the App ever handles, it is used solely for that display purpose, and it is the only piece of data collected by the App that is linked to your identity (see "How This Maps to Apple's Privacy Label" below).

How the App Works

Classyfi is a Google Classroom companion: it lets you join or create classes, schedule class and assignment reminders, sync real classes and assignments from your Google account, and talk to AI Teacher for help with your schoolwork.

Google Classroom sync (optional). If you connect your Google account, the App requests read-only access to your course list and your own coursework/submissions, plus your account email, using Google's standard sign-in flow. Nothing is sent to a server we operate as part of this — the App talks directly to Google's servers, and the resulting class/assignment data is stored locally on your Mac to populate Class Reminder and Assignment Reminder. Your Google sign-in tokens are stored securely in your Mac's Keychain, not in the App's own files.

AI Teacher. Unlike a tool that only processes files on your device, getting a response from AI Teacher is this feature's core function, and that inherently requires a network request. When you send a message — optionally with an attached image or text/code file — the text of your message, along with any attached image or the text of any attached file, is sent directly to OpenAI's API to generate a response. We do not route this through a server we operate; the App calls OpenAI's API directly. This request carries no account ID, email, or other identifier tying it back to you — it travels as a standalone request, which is why this content is not linked to your identity (see below).

Every class reminder, assignment reminder, and AI Teacher conversation you create is saved locally on your Mac, in the App's own sandboxed storage. None of it is uploaded anywhere beyond the one-time requests described above.

Every feature in the App tells you what it's doing — none of this happens silently or in a way that differs from what the feature itself describes.

Local Storage

The App stores a small amount of data locally on your Mac, inside its own sandboxed storage (shared with its desktop widget via an App Group container where needed):

  • Your appearance preference (Light, Dark, or System)
  • Your remaining free-usage counts for Join/Create Class, AI Teacher messages, and manually-created Class/Assignment reminders, used to enforce the free-tier limits described in the App
  • A cached record of your subscription status, so the App and its desktop widget can recognize Pro access without a network round-trip on every launch
  • Every class reminder, assignment reminder, AI Teacher conversation, and reminder-history entry you've created

This data is not synced to any server we control and stays on your Mac unless you delete it yourself. You can clear your reminder history from the History tab's "Clear All" option, or remove all of it by deleting the App.

Device Permissions

Classyfi requests notification permission so it can alert you when a scheduled class or assignment reminder is due. You can revoke this at any time in System Settings, though reminders won't be able to notify you if you do.

The App does not request access to your microphone, camera, contacts, or location.

When you choose an image or file to attach to an AI Teacher message, the App uses macOS's standard file picker. This grants the App access only to the specific file you select — it is not a standing "Files" permission, and nothing else on your Mac becomes visible to the App as a result.

Subscriptions & Payments

If you choose to subscribe to Classyfi Pro (unlocking unlimited Join/Create Class, unlimited AI Teacher messages, unlimited Class & Assignment reminders, Google Classroom account sync, and the desktop widget):

  • All payments are processed entirely through the Apple App Store, using Apple's StoreKit framework
  • We do not collect, process, or store any payment or billing information ourselves
  • We do not run any server-side receipt validation — subscription status is verified directly against Apple's records on your device
  • Apple manages all transaction data under its own Privacy Policy

Third-Party Services

Classyfi uses the following third parties, for different, limited purposes:

ServicePurposeWhat's sentPrivacy Policy
Apple App Store / StoreKitPayments, subscriptions, and purchase validationPurchase/transaction data (handled entirely by Apple)apple.com/legal/privacy
Google (Sign-In & Classroom API)Optional account sync — mirroring your real classes and courseworkYour read-only course/coursework data and account email, requested directly by the Apppolicies.google.com/privacy
OpenAIGenerating AI Teacher responsesThe text of your message, and any attached image or file text, sent directly from the Appopenai.com/policies/privacy-policy

OpenAI's own API Data Usage Policy states that inputs and outputs sent through its API are not used to train its models by default, and are retained for up to 30 days to provide the service and monitor for abuse before being deleted, unless OpenAI is legally required to retain them longer. Classyfi does not create a per-user OpenAI account on your behalf — the App authenticates using our own developer credentials, not an account tied to you — so no name or similar personal identifier of yours is sent to OpenAI beyond the content of your message itself.

None of the App's other features — including your saved reminders, appearance settings, or subscription status — send any information anywhere. We do not integrate any advertising network.

How This Maps to Apple's Privacy Label

Classyfi's App Store product page discloses exactly three data types, matching everything described above — nothing more:

Data Type    Used For           Linked to Your Identity?        Used for Tracking?
Email Address    App Functionality only                    Yes                   No
Photos or Videos    App Functionality only                     No                   No
Other User Content    App Functionality only                     No                   No

Your account email is the one piece of data that identifies you directly, so it's linked to your identity. The content you send to AI Teacher (any attached image, and the text of your message or attached file) travels to OpenAI as a standalone request with no identifier attached, so it is not linked to your identity in Apple's sense of the term — even though, as explained above, it's still real content you typed or attached, sent for the sole purpose of generating your response. None of these three data types is ever used for advertising, analytics, or tracking of any kind.

Analytics & Tracking

  • We do not use behavioral analytics tools that build a profile of individual users.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not serve ads of any kind.
  • We do not use cookies, device fingerprinting, or the Apple IDFA.
  • We do not use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, or any other analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
  • If a future version adds crash or diagnostic reporting to help us fix bugs, we will update this policy before that change ships.

Data Storage & Security

Data stored locally (your reminders, AI Teacher conversations, history log, preferences, free-usage counts, and cached subscription status) lives in the App's private sandboxed storage on your Mac, protected by macOS's built-in security features (Touch ID, password/passcode, FileVault where enabled). Your Google sign-in tokens are additionally protected by your Mac's Keychain.

When the App sends a message to AI Teacher, or syncs data from Google Classroom, that request travels over an encrypted (TLS) connection directly to OpenAI or Google respectively. We do not maintain any database of your messages, reminders, or synced Classroom data on servers we operate, because we don't operate a server in this data path at all — everything you keep afterward lives only on your Mac.

Children's Privacy

Classyfi is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Parents and guardians should supervise use of the App by children and teenagers, particularly regarding any in-app purchases and any connection of a Google account.

Your Rights

Because we do not maintain user accounts or any server-side database of our own, there is no persistent profile tied to you that we can access, export, or delete on our end — there simply isn't one. All locally stored App data (your reminders, conversations, history, and preferences) can be deleted at any time from the History tab's clear option, by disconnecting Google Classroom in Settings, or by deleting the App entirely.

For data processed by Apple as part of a purchase, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for how to exercise any rights you may have with them directly.

For data accessed through Google Classroom, you can revoke the App's access at any time from your Google Account's third-party access settings, in addition to disconnecting it from within Classyfi; please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for how to exercise any further rights you may have with them directly.

For text sent to OpenAI as part of an AI Teacher request, it is retained under OpenAI's own API Data Usage Policy (up to 30 days, as described above); you may refer to OpenAI's Privacy Policy for how to exercise any rights you may have with them directly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. When we do:

  • The "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised.
  • Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.
  • Your continued use of the App after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

(Note: confirm this with a lawyer familiar with your actual jurisdiction — this clause should name the developer's home jurisdiction, not the user's, and needs review before publishing. Same caveat as the EULA's governing law clause.)
